Housing assistance or grants are provided for people with low to moderate incomes but are still having a hard time paying for housing costs. The HUD can give you the housing assistance you need and here are some ways to acquire it.

Difficulty: 5

Things You'll Need: A computer, the internet, important personal and financial documentation

Step 1. Research on housing grants online. You can easily do this by checking with the HUD. The HUD is the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, and they offer grants to various people, groups and organizations.

Step 2. Make sure that you qualify for the housing grant. Your income must be inside the qualification bracket. You will need to provide your proof of income, a monthly expense list and the number of people who are included in your household.

Step 3. Make sure to follow the required process to obtain grants from the HUD.

Step 4. You may be able to get an application form online, or through local government offices. Fill up the forms needed. Make sure that it's the right form that you are filling up.

Step 5. Have all the documentations necessary. For specific grants, you can include unique information like doctor's notes, court orders, notices or bills for rent, pictures and the like. Remember to keep a copy for yourself as well.

Step 6. Study your application once again, and check to see if you have made mistakes. Be thorough when double checking.

Step 7. Send in the application to the proper address. This can be done through the HUD website for online applications. You can also send your application through the postal service.

Step 8. If deemed necessary, the HUD will call you up for an appointment in order for you to finish up all applications. Bring all important documents with you then.

Step 9: Patience is the key. The chance of being placed on a waitlist is very big and this usually takes a very long time. So be patient enough to wait for it because the housing assistance depends on the availability of housing projects near your area or state.

Step 10. Be diligent with your efforts. Keep your contact information up to date. Something as little as a missed phone call can spell out zero for your housing grant. This is because there are throngs of people applying for the housing grant - so if you don't answer an email or phone call, then they move on with the list. Update them with your contact information always.

Tips:

- You can pretty much get all the information necessary from the HUD's website. But if you'd like more clarifications, you can call them. Their numbers are toll - free.

- Federal housing grants are very competitive. You should understand what you're getting into.

- If you want to be updated at all times you can subscribe to Family Services Report or visit www.cdpublications/funding.com for federal grants.

Warnings:

- Any attempt of the HUD to contact you must be responded to immediately.

- If luck is not by your side this time, there are still numerous ways to acquire housing assistance. Just don't lose hope.

- Always tell the truth. Information like your income, number of people in your household, budget is necessary information needed to qualify for housing assistance. If found to be lying, a corresponding legal action is waiting for you.
