Once you decide to invest into an electric wheelchair there is more that you need to know. Electric wheelchairs are like vehicles more so than bicycles in terms of the level of maintenance required for long-term success with the wheelchair. Providers need to have steady supply lines for owners to repair and maintain the wheelchairs they sell. You will want to make sure that they will enable you to do this.

Many types of wheelchairs are reliable, while others are known for frequent breakdowns and will need to be repaired and tuned up regularly. Although your insurance company may try to recommend the provider you use to get your wheelchair, they do not have the legal right to do this.

Wheelchairs are far more personalized than many people may realize. Your provider is like a normal retailer in some ways but is highly unusual in some others. The wheelchair needs to do more than simply meet general specifications. It needs to be designed specifically for you or your loved one.

The provider should be able to help you to figure out what wheelchair accessories and functions will work best for you. Mobility of arms and neck support are both crucial. The level and type of disability greatly affects this. There are people who need to be able to access communication systems, beverages, and navigation with almost no use of their arms or legs whereas another person may need navigation systems on one side and nothing that will overly restrain them - only the lightest of neck support.

You may need a wheelchair provider that is well versed in a range of wheelchair adjustments. It is best to work with a provider that has a ATP on staff that is a trained medical professional who can fit you more perfectly. So when looking for a provider be sure to consider that they are trained and able to support your disability needs.

The final aspects of your provider are more essentially interpersonal. Here, you simply need a good enough personality match to make it so that you can handle questions, communications and conflicts reasonably well. You need competence and the right equipment but also want to have people who you are able to work with instead of people that make you feel shy or frightened or contentious.
