The first consideration is if the greenhouse will be a permanent or portable structure. Consider your weather conditions; if you have harsh winters with lots of snow and winds the structure will need to be stronger than if you are in a more moderate climate. If you want a foundation decide what it will be made of. If the greenhouse is a permanent structure a foundation is probably necessary. Whether you decide on a portable or a permanent structure choose a construction design that is simple and is made of materials found at your hardware store.

Materials used for construction will depend on whether you are more concerned about the cost or appearance of your greenhouse.

For wood construction choose either cedar, cypress, redwood or pressure treated lumber. Other lumber would have to be painted in order to protect the structure, soil and plants from possible contamination from preservatives on the lumber.

Any plant will grow in a greenhouse as long as the conditions are as near as possible to those in its native environment. To achieve this you may have to install heating and lighting systems. If you use these systems you will also need a back-up system in case of a power outage.

Place the greenhouse where it will have good sunlight, utilities available and adequate drainage.

A small greenhouse can be designed to maximize the space. Be creative and enjoy your greenhouse.
