Monday, 07 December 2009 09:33 | Written by Eric Frey
By now you have probably noticed that the Xbox 360 is by no means a cheap item to buy. Therefore it is understandable to be a little more than irked when the machine decides to croak. It is a little ridiculous to have to pay getting it repaired after forking over so much dough to purchase it in the first place. A commonly asked question is "can I repair my Xbox 360 for free?"

To answer this question, yes. In fact, you are going to find that there are plenty of possible solutions that can help solve your dilemma. The first technique to try out is unplugging the power. If you try this, you need to remove the hard drive and then plug in your game console. After plugging in your game console, press the power button. If it is working, shut the power off and reattach your hard drive back in and get back to cracking skulls on Xbox Live. If this fails, try one of these other steps.

A second route to go by is removing all of the cables plugged into the console. First, start by unplugging your Xbox 360 and removing the hard drive. Next, remove all of the colored cables including the video one. From there, plug in the console and start it back up to see if it worked. If neither of these techniques failed to correct the problem, regrettably to say there is a more serious predicament at hand.

You may be wondering if it is still possible at this point to "repair my Xbox 360 for free." If you haven't already done so, make sure you check if you are still covered by the extended warranty if you purchased it in the past. Microsoft has the extended the warranty support to accommodate you and the countless others who experience the same type of problems.

There may be a number of reasons your Xbox 360 may be experiencing difficulties, but overheating is undoubtedly the most common problem. Because of this, it is essential that you check to make sure your console is getting enough ventilation. After making sure it has enough air circulation, try blowing all of the vents out with a compressed air can.

The last thing to consider is opening up the machine on your own and following instructions that you can find online. Just keep in mind that repairing your Xbox 360 on your own is a risky venture, as you void any warranties. Although it is chancy, it can save you $150 for Microsoft to repair it and ship it back out to you weeks down the road. Deciding the best path to take for repairing your Xbox is important. However, be aware there are many cheap and effective options to take that don't involve sending it to Microsoft.
